Ah, McCain, what a pain...

Must say I've been enjoying Guy Rundle's Crikey commentary on the US presidential campaigns. It was also interesting to read something recently (I think it was in the "media wrap" section) about how McCain's campaign gaffes - for example, talking about the Iraq-Pakistan border - have basically been left to slide, whereas you can imagine what would have happened if Obama had said something similar.

I think McCain's gone though, and that the Republicans made the wrong choice. The christian fundos appear to be waning and aren't getting behind him, unless he chooses a good vice presidential candidate who can get them effectively back onside. Even then, I think (well let's face it, I'm hoping) that Obama will continue to have the numbers come November....

It's looking good, so far, and I don't think the Republican attack dogs can save McCain. Obama's world trip has been a real winner, and I think will be the clincher. Hope so, anyway. I'm just so tired of conservative governments, and the damage they have done.
[this is good]

Nice post! "Ah, McCain, what a pain..." says it all. I can only shake my head when I think about how incapable he is of leading this nation. He's referred to the Czeck republic as "Czechoslavakia" several times, he accused Iran of supporting Al Qaeda, while Joe Lieberman had to correct him since everyone knows that Iran and Al Qaeda are bitter enemies.

I love the fact that recently, a woman asked McCain, "What's your stance on birth control pills not being covered by medical insurance yet Viagra is covered for men?" McCain didn't know what to say and just stood there like a deer in headlights. Then he says, "umm... uhh... I have to check my voting records... umm... I'm not going to answer that."

I respect the opinions of others, but I think McCain is a hegemonic war-monger who is sacrificing the interests of the American people to cater to powerful lobbyist who control our foreign policy. He knows very well that the IAEA has concluded that there is no proof of a weapons program underway in Iran, yet since the Israelis want to attack them, he is in full support mode. They don't want any Arab or Islamic country to excel in the fields of science. I'm not saying the Iranians are free from mistakes, but they have explicity said they are working under the auspices of the IAEA. Why doesn't the IAEA inspect the Israeli nuclear-weapons arsenal, or better yet our own? Why can't we have a nuclear weapon-free world? Because then some countries won't be able to bully others into submission.

If McCain wins, God help us all. I'm not a huge Obama fan, but I would much rather vote for a man who is open to dialogue than one who wants to deem everyone who disagrees with him a "terrorist."
