UNBELIEVABLE! An entire state SHUTS DOWN and it doesn't make it to the national news headlines????

wtf? Everytime I talk to my relatives there, they are telling me about how bad things are getting, but I haven't heard/read anything about this. That is seriously messed up and I agree with you, this should be a front page story!

Thanks for the 411 in the 313!!

Yeah, I think it should have been a major story on the national news tickers. I guess they were too busy talking about real news like Pam Anderson's next "marriage".

There were stories done (by Michigan press folks). Those stories were posted at the news outlets. HOWEVER, you had to know to search for "Michigan shutdown" otherwise you had no clue. My issue is the headlines on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. There is something wrong whne they are pimping the marriage of PAmela Anderson as a national headline over the shutdown of a state that has 1 out of every 20 Americans in it.

I'm with you on the Media's failure to report the important stories, but I am not so sure that Michigan's shutdown of services for a few hours was worthy of National headlines - unless it was part of a wider expose and editorial on the failures of state and local governments throughout the nation.

This sort of thing is very common. I've been dealing with it since the 70's here in California - where the tax revolt started.

An aside, you've overstated your State's population by 50%. There are nearly 300 million Americans.

LOL...you are right. I am not sure why I had 200 million stuck in my head. I apologize, I did not mean to exaggerate numbers. I actually hate it when that happens.

As for our shutdown - I think state governments shutting down SHOULD make the national news. They should even receive a bullet. They should be up there long before half the stories that the media pushes are up there.

Well. When they are published I hope the articles also discuss budgetary trends, issues with taxes, unfunded federal programs fosted off on the states, and other national problems that contribute to these local problems.
